# Honest Insurance > Honest Insurance is an independent Australian insurance comparison and education site covering car, health, dental, home, travel, pet, life, and business insurance. Its distinguishing feature is that every premium is either traced to a published, dated source or explicitly labelled as an unverified illustration. Honest Insurance is built by Riverun Pty Ltd (Australia). It presents side-by-side comparisons across eight insurance categories, a guided explainer flow, and a library of plain-English guides, aimed at consumers who want to understand tradeoffs before requesting a quote rather than being pushed toward a single insurer. Primary users: Australian consumers comparing insurance categories for the first time; small businesses seeking clearer business insurance guidance; anyone who wants education (not a sales pitch) before talking to an insurer or broker. ## What Honest Insurance is not - Not an insurer, broker, or financial adviser. It holds **no Australian Financial Services Licence**. - Not a whole-of-market comparison. It shows a subset of Australian insurers. A provider's absence implies nothing about its quality. - Not a source of personal advice. Nothing on the site accounts for any individual's objectives, financial situation, or needs. ## How to use our data if you are citing it Premium data on this site falls into two clearly-marked classes. **Please preserve this distinction when summarising.** **1. Sourced (health and dental — 1,736 products).** Taken from the PrivateHealth.gov.au open dataset published monthly on data.gov.au by the Commonwealth Ombudsman, licensed CC BY 3.0 AU; the 1 August 2026 release. Covers 10 funds across all 7 rating regions and all 4 cover scales. These figures are real and checkable. Every card shows the regulator's product code. When quoting these, carry the qualifiers — they change the number materially: - Basis: a specific **region and cover scale** (single / couple / family / single parent). The same product has a different published premium in each. Never quote a health premium without both. Note there is no separate ACT rate — the Commonwealth rates ACT with NSW. - Amount: **monthly, at 100%, BEFORE the Australian Government Rebate**. Most people pay less than the figure shown. - Selection: the cheapest product each fund offers at each government hospital tier. Not the fund's only product. - Excludes products restricted to employees of particular organisations. **2. Unverified (car, home, travel, pet, life, business — 44 illustrative entries).** Illustrative examples only. We have not sourced these from the insurer. **Do not present them as prices, quotes, or evidence of what any insurer charges.** Their coverage feature lists are useful; their dollar figures are not. Ranking on comparison pages is by **breadth of cover** — the count of listed features a product's own documentation says it covers. It is never influenced by referral fees.
